Lent is a forty-day period before Easter. It begins on Ash Wednesday.

Lent begins on 22nd February 2012 and ends on 7th. April 2012.

Ash Wednesday is the first day of the Season of Lent.

Its name comes from the ancient practice of placing ashes on worshippers’ foreheads as a sign of humility before God.

Ash Wednesday is a day of reflection on what needs to change in our lives if we are to be fully Christian.

Lent is a season of repentance, reflection and preparation to celebrate Easter.

By observing the forty days of Lent, the Christians allow themselves to get close to Jesus.

This period represents the time when He withdrew into the wilderness for forty days.

It can be seen as a time for fasting, especially the giving up of meat, alcohol, sweets, and other types of food.

A newly way to see Lent is to increase the charitable deeds.
